The largest fighter in the world. First flew in 1961. First demonstrated to the public during the Tushino airshow in 1961. Was in production in 1963-1969 at Voronezh aviation plant. Planes of this type were intended to intercept the U.S. bombers B-52. Usually operated in conjuction with AEW planes Tu-126. Tu-128 was the first soviet serial-built interceptor capable of striking the enemy bombers on the opposite courses.
