The first prototype "88" flew on April 27, 1952. Entered production in 1953. First demonstrated to public during the military parade over the Red Square in Moscow on May 1, 1954. Was in service also as reconnaissance plane and flying tanker. About 2000 built. Exported to Egypt, Iraq and Indonesia. Also built under license in China. Small numbers are still in service in China. |
