Il-62 Classic
|
The Ilyushin Il-62 is Russia’s only successful long range jet airliner to date. It was offered in a base model named Il-62 and an improved version named Il-62M. A version with strengthened wings was designated Il-62MK. The Il-62M remained in production until 1993. The Il-62 was exported to most of the Warsaw Pact states and associated states such as Cuba, Egypt and MoÚambique. Some airlines like LOT of Poland or CSA of Czechoslovakia even employed the Il-62 on European routes, when strong bookings asked for an airliner with high seating capacity. Today, only few aircraft of the original model Il-62 are left, while the more powerful Il-62M remains in service mainly with Aeroflot, Cubana de Aviacion, Domodedovo Airlines and Khabarovsk Air Enterprise. |
